Jawdat Shaabo, de creatieve kracht achter Tent van het Oosten, heeft ook dit theaterseizoen weer een reeks bijzondere optredens samengesteld, waarin muzikanten je meenemen op een muzikale reis door diverse culturen in Noord-Afrika, het Midden-Oosten en Centraal-Azië. In deze editie overstijgt de Syrisch-Nederlandse klarinettist Ghaeth Almaghoot stijlen én grenzen.
Toen zijn paspoort een symbool van afwijzing werd, vond klarinettist Ghaeth Almaghoot in muziek een universele taal zonder grenzen. In Levantine Hues verklankt hij persoonlijke en gedeelde verhalen van mensen op de vlucht, in transitie, op zoek naar verbinding. Samen met zijn internationaal samengestelde quintet weeft hij Arabische melodieën en jazzharmonieën tot een eigen geluid dat direct tot de ziel spreekt. Met vernieuwende microtonale composities voor basklarinet doorbreekt hij muzikale grenzen en nodigt hij het publiek uit om te luisteren naar wat ons mens maakt.

In deze reeks worden verhalen verteld aan de hand van muziek, dans en rituelen die de diversiteit en schoonheid van het oosten vieren. De serie biedt een podium aan artiesten die niet alleen de muzikale schatten uit hun eigen cultuur laten horen, maar ook nieuwe geluiden verkennen, waarin oosterse en westerse invloeden op verrassende wijze samenkomen.

Jawdat Shaabo, the creative force behind Tent of the East, has once again curated a special series of performances for this theatre season. Each concert invites you on a musical journey through the diverse cultures of North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. In this edition, Syrian-Dutch clarinetist Ghaeth Almaghoot transcends both styles and borders.
When his passport became a symbol of rejection, clarinetist Ghaeth Almaghoot found in music a universal language without borders. In Levantine Hues, he gives voice to personal and collective stories of people on the move — in transition, in search of connection. Together with his internationally formed quintet, he weaves Arabic melodies and jazz harmonies into a sound uniquely his own, one that speaks directly to the soul. With innovative microtonal compositions for bass clarinet, he breaks through musical boundaries and invites the audience to listen closely to what makes us human.
